OUR SHED STORY

Our Men's Shed was formed on Thursday 23 June 2011 when about 50 people gathered in the Committee Rooms at Port Stephens Council administration building.  The Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed was founded and incorporated as a not for profit organisation in 2011 following the identification of a need within the local community for this concept. Our first attempt at procuring a building to use as a men’s shed was through our local Port Stephens Council where the former SES building in Port Stephens St was initially identifies but later rejected by council as being unsuitable for our purpose. Further investigation resulted in us approaching Crown Lands NSW through Port Stephens Council for consideration of temporary use of the former Raymond Terrace fire station in William St. A Development Application was submitted to council requesting a “temporary change of use” for this site. In November 2011, after negotiation with both parties, approval was granted for a two year sub license agreement with Port Stephens Council for the former fire station to be used as our first men’s shed site. This sub-license has since been extended a further three years through to 2016. Our shed was officially open for use by Councillor Glenys Francis on the 4th August 2012.The Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed currently operates from our new premises located in Boomerang park.  Our address is 17G Irrawang  St. Raymond Terrace. The Shed  operates for general shed activities 4 half days a week with the first and second Tuesday of each month assigned for member computer tutorials
